“Make it your business to find out about the condition people have, otherwise you can make assumptions that are simply not true. 

The best way is to sit down with the person and ask what their mental health problem means to them so that you can understand it from their perspective.

  • Ask the person what support they need.
  • Normalise as much as possible, as people don’t want sympathy.
  • Build policies into your workplace that respect people’s unique differences.”
