Physical and Mental Health

As an employer, you are already aware of the need for encouraging good physical health habits in your workplace. You know that employees need to take action to prevent themselves from becoming ill with lifestyle illnesses such as strokes, heart problems or diabetes, and to help them to recover well when they do fall ill. You are aware that physical health is more than just the absence of disease.

Mental health is exactly the same; it is more than the absence of a diagnosed mental illness. People who are mentally healthy:

  • enjoy their daily activities

  • feel that they have productive lives

  • maintain fulfilling relationships with others

  • can cope with change

  • have the resilience to deal with adversity, such as grief and loss
